How to play 500 Rummy

  1. Deal. One card starts the discard pile.
  2. Draw. Take the top card of the stock, or any card in the discard pile together with every card above it.
  3. Meld. Put down 3–4 cards of one rank, or 3+ cards in a row of one suit. Ace is low (A‑2‑3) or high (Q‑K‑A), never K‑A‑2.
  4. Lay off. Add cards to any meld on the table, including your opponents'. You score the cards you add.
  5. Discard one card to end your turn.
  6. Going out. If someone goes out before everyone has had a turn, the others each still get one. The round also ends when a player draws from an empty stock.
  7. Scoring. You score every card you put on the table, minus every card still in your hand. The first player to reach the target wins.
